Chugelibahn
Unique, 3D Printed Track Pieces for a Swiss Start-up
Chugelibahn.ch is a Swiss start-up that created a collaborative marble run toy using a milled wooden base and 3D-printed track pieces. Designed to encourage teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving, the set allows children to build custom trails and race marbles together. Encountering it during my exchange semester evoked nostalgic memories of building marble runs as a child, making the product feel both innovative and personally meaningful.
That’s when I saw an opportunity — to introduce friendly competition to Chugelibahn’s collaborative marble run. By allowing children to race their marbles on the tracks they build together, the experience could spark curiosity, strategy, and problem-solving: Which path is fastest? How do turns affect the outcome? Can the race be made fair? This added layer of play encourages deeper engagement and learning through experimentation.

To support this idea, I designed a starting block that fairly lines up and releases marbles simultaneously. While the board’s slope may still give one marble an advantage, this challenge adds to the problem-solving experience for children. I also ensured the ramp’s design matched Chugelibahn’s existing aesthetic, while keeping the door open for a future visual redesign.
